How to save costs when planning a classy low-key wedding. People are obsessed with weddings and it may be tempting to succumb to the pressure of emptying your account and having an elaborate event.
You can have a memorable event within your budget range. Planning a classy, low-key wedding on a budget is a difficult task even for experienced planners.
The truth is that you can have a fantastic wedding, irrespective of how tight your budget is. The trick is in setting your priorities, maximizing the things that you already posses, asking for help from loved ones and being creative.
In this article, you will discover easy to follow steps to planning a classy, low-key wedding in Nigeria.
Follow the steps below to plan your own low-key wedding flawlessly:
1. Make your own invitation Cards
With a quality home printer and some time, you can make very classy invitations on your own.
If you want to go with a professional printer, print a few cards for the older folks and have a graphic designer design a card you can forward to your younger guests online.
For the creative ones, you can make your own cards at home. However, this requires time, patience and a whole lot of skill.
2. Do the catering yourself, or hire a family-owned restaurant
If cooking isn’t your forte, look around your community for a family friend who is into the cooking business and ask them directly to cater your wedding.
They will almost always go the extra mile to make your wedding special and are generally more understanding of your particular budget needs.
NOTE: If your wedding reception venue would be in a hotel, most hotels have policies which require you to purchase all your food and drinks from them. So, make sure to ask them beforehand.
3. Keep The Menu Simple
When deciding on what food to have at your wedding, always consider the prices. Keep the menu options small and limit the variety of food served. Instead of serving an elaborate six-course meal, consider only three or two.
The more options you want for your wedding catering, the more money you’d have to spend. And if you want to keep your wedding catering budget down, stay away from offering your guests a wide variety.
Simply serve the usual popular Nigerian party foods that everyone likes like Jollof rice, Moimoi, Dodo etc.

4. Don’t buy a wedding dress
However tempting it might seem, do NOT buy a dress. It’s an investment that isn’t worth it in the long run.
It’s always more thrifty to rent or get someone in the family to pass theirs down to you. Talk to family and friends if they know people who own wedding gowns and accessories and are willing to rent it out. This is cheaper than going to a rental shop.

5. Avoid guest list bloat
Although you might be tempted to throw everyone you know on your guest list, that isn’t always a great idea. With each addition you make, you’re adding additional costs while also making your wedding less intimate.
To save as much as you can, try inviting fewer people and making the event more intimate. Start by whittling your list down by 20%, then another 20%. Then see if you’re happy with it.
Don’t invite people out of obligation. You can always send them a souvenir after the wedding.
6. Ask For Help
Whether it’s from family, friends, family’s friends, or friend’s family – ask for help. Before going on to hire a celebrity MC or DJ, ask the people around you if they know someone who does such work. Don’t be afraid to try out new people.
Frankly, a lot of people don’t care about who plays music, as long as it is well mixed. Get a family member or friend who is congenial and charismatic to serve as your MC. You’d be surprised at how good they can be.
Remember, weddings are a celebration of the couple. Don’t get caught up in trying to follow the latest trends and just stick to whatever you’re happy with and works well for your budget.
